Janne Teller is a critically acclaimed and best-selling Danish novelist and essayist of Austrian-German family background.

She has received numerous literary grants and awards, including the prestigious American Michael L. Printz Honor Award for literary excellency and the Danish Drassow’s Literary Peace Prize. Her literature that confronts philosophical questions of life and civilization and often sparks controversial debate, is today translated into 30 languages.

Janne Teller has published six novels, including the modern Nordic saga Odin’s Island about political and religious fanaticism, as well as the existential Nothing that after initially being banned, is today by many critics considered a new classic. Her passport book War – What If It Were Here about life as a refugee, she adapts to each country where it’s published.

Janne Teller is also a human rights activist, speaking up for civilians in places such as Kashmir and Palestine. She was one of the initiators of the 2013 Writers Against Mass Surveillance campaign, and she is a member of the Jury of the prestigious German Peace Prize. She has published a number of essays in international newspapers and magazines, such as the European intellectual magazine Lettre Internationale and the German Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. She also contributed an essay Ode to a Land, to the 2016  anthology of American writers about Palestine, Extraordinary Rendition.

Her most recent book is a collection of essays Walking Naked (2018), focused on how to make a multicultural world function, that also includes an updated version of her Palestine essay Ode to a Land.

Originally educated a macro economist, before in 1995 dedicating herself fulltime to writing, Janne Teller has lived and worked with conflict resolution and humanitarian affairs for the EU and UN in Mozambique, Tanzania, and many other countries around the world. Having lived also for years in New York and Berlin, today, she splits her time between Elsinore and London.
